The Future Doctors of America found a great use for all of that extra change lying around the house. In April, the club organized a Pennies for Patients Drive for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The organization’s President, senior Tim Addison said, “We did it last year and it’s a really great fundraiser for kids who have cancer.” Change was collected in science classes, with the winning class determined by the weight of the coins they gathered. The drive has raised a staggering total of over $2,500 with Ms. Erin Hitchman’s winning with 82.9 kg. ($704) of coins.

Senior Randi Wright showed her support for the cause by bringing in an Ikea bag half full of coins, over 12,000 pennies. “One of my best friends has lymphoma,” she said. “It’s close to my heart.” The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society works to find a cure for these cancers. “We’re the Future Doctors of America. Finding a cure is kinda our objective,” said Addison. –Jennifer Linkins, The Patriot Press
