Halloween Week Scares

Spooky lights and carved pumpkins can only mean one thing: It’s Halloween! People all around Calvert County are decorating their houses and putting together costumes with excitement. Northern students are getting in on the action!

“I plan to dress up as a zombie this year and go out with friends to scare trick or treaters!” said sophomore Kirsten Southan.

Many students actually plan to go trick or treating, either with family or with friends. “I don’t care what anyone says, I’m seventeen and I’m still going trick or treating. You’re never too old to go,” said senior Maddie Henwood.

Normally, people give out treats, but some Northern students have experienced tricks. There are the predictable ones like the man holding candy who jumps at you, but some of the scariest tricks happen at haunted trails or houses. Students have been visiting frightening attractions on the weekends like Kings Dominion’s Halloween Haunt in Doswell, Virginia ($19.99 if you go in costume), or local places like the Field of Screams, located in Olney in Montgomery County (offering four haunted trails, $15 and up).

Students have also been experiencing a Halloween must: The pumpkin patch and corn maze. Here in Calvert County there are many different places for family fun like the Spider Hall Farm, located on Hallowing Point road in Prince Fredrick ($8 per person). Go and get your pumpkins and walk the corn maze before it closes on November 12. Call them at 410-535-5819 for more information.

Northern is also hosting their own Halloween events here at the school. Come out Tuesday, October 29 to enjoy FBLA’s annual Trick or Trunk, where elementary school students will enjoy games, contests, and candy!

Northern High’s broadcasting show WNHS will be all about Halloween on this week’s special Halloween show, so make sure you tune in for the frightening fun!
