Kampsen Collects Books For Hospital

Sophomore Katie Kampsen, a member of  the Key Club, is giving back to a hospital that has given so much to her family. Kampsen’s sister, senior Kelsey Kampsen, was treated for brain cancer as a child at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. As a part of her Girl Scout Gold Award, Kampsen is organizing a school and community book drive to donate children’s books to the Oncology Unit at the hospital.

“Katie came to me wanting to do the project,” said Key Club president senior Alia O’Kane.  The Key Club has made and distributed flyers advertising the drive, which lasts from now to the end of March. “So far, I’ve contacted my church, public library, and am going to try to get the post office,” said Kampsen. “My goal is to try to get a thousand books.” O’Kane notes that the group is working to get the word out. The drive seeks books for elementary to teen readers. They can be turned in in Ms. Wieland’s class, room 601.
