TV Review: Two Docs for the Fall

Five Amish youth hit the big city. Image courtesy of TLC.

In the new reality series Breaking Amish,  five traditional Amish leave behind their strict religious backgrounds to hit the Big Apple as part of an Amish tradition that allows young adults to experience the outside world before joining the community as adults. Once they arrive in New York City,  the hustle and bustle of the city life overwhelms the typical country folks. Relationships begin to develop and are soon tested as the young people’s lack of education make it nearly impossible to find work. The show is packed with drama and hilarity. The highlight  is seeing the reaction of the native New Yorkers when these out of town visitors show up to explore the crazy city.

With it’s clueless cast of conservative Amish, this show is sure to be a hit. Be sure to check out Breaking Amish on Sunday’s at 10 p.m. on TLC. Grade: B+

This is How I Made It is one of MTV’s new series that premiered on October 15.   The show is a documentary about your favorite MTV celebrities, telling their fans their path to fame. There are several stars per show, revealing details about their lives and personal stories of how they made it to fame. The show is not the most interesting thing on MTV and is kind of dull. It is very informational and different from your normal MTV reality car crash. If you like documentaries about your favorite MTV stars and singers,n this show is perfect for you. It airs Saturdays at 12 p.m. Grade: B-
