Powder Puff Games Tonight

Over the past two weeks, students and coaches have been preparing for tonight’s annual Powder Puff football game.  All of the teams have held practices and meetings to prepare. The senior girls this year are coached by Mr. Kenny Seibert, who has held numerous practices and scrimmaged the freshman team. “Our only weakness is our speed. But we will hold our own. The seniors are tough and play hard,” he said.

The junior team is led by Mrs. Rachel Sparks. “We practice a couple of times a week and spend about an hour learning the specific play, then our offense and defense scrimmage,” she said. “I expect my girls to play their hearts out and play with conviction. As long as they give 100% of what they’ve got, I will be proud of them win or lose.”

Sophomore coach Mrs. Monica Laserna and her team have spent their time preparing by holding practices, meetings and team dinners.  “I know my girls will do great. We are strong, fast and we are all very competitive,” she said. Powder Puff is a good way for girls to spend time with each other. “I really enjoy it. It’s a fun thing to do, and plus you get to see all of your friends. I think we have a good chance of winning as long as we keep a strong defense so the seniors can’t score,” said sophomore Rowan McVey.

The freshmen are coached by Mr. Paul Crickenberger. “Our first two meetings were in the weight room, and we just went over formations, plays, and positions. Now we practice three times a week for forty-five minutes,” he said. “I really hope the girls have a good time and that they learn something about football. But, I expect to win. I always aim high. Like the great Ricky Bobby said, ‘If you’re not first, you’re last,’” he said. Freshman Michaela Schaefer sees Crickenberger’s positive attitude as helpful to the team. “Mr. Crickenberger is a big part of our team. He has a winning mind set which makes us all push harder,” she said

The Powder Puff Game starts tonight at 6 p.m. and admission will be five dollars. The Freshman’s first game will be against the juniors. Then the sophomore and senior teams will play each other with the winning teams fighting it out for the final.
