Last week, The Patriot Club, held a letter writing campaign in the cafeteria, asking students to write messages to soldiers and wounded American veterans through a program called Operation Gratitude. “We hope to raise awareness to the opportunities that student’s have to show support to our fellow American citizens that serve our country in the military,” said Mrs. Laura Rozengota, the club sponsor. “The Patriot Club gives students an opportunity to show support to our military folks by writing letters to the troops and raising funds to pay for postage for the boxes to the troops or to buy items for the boxes.”

The club meets in room 503 during lunch and writes to different troops to remind them of what is happening back home and to remind them of how important they are. This club has been in place for a few years and has impacted many service men and women. Troops have sent letters back telling them how much their gifts and letters meant to them. Asked why he joined, freshman Dylan Kepich said, “I’m looking forward to helping the troops of the good old U.S. of A.”

“I think it is important to remind everyone of what our troops are doing every day and how important it is to support them,” said freshman Alyssa Gray.

The Patriot Club meets every two weeks for one half of lunch in Mrs. Rozengota’s room. (Room 503). The club hopes to expand and welcomes any new members. This club works to positively impact the lives of those who deserve it most. “The best part of the Patriot Club is having the opportunity to get together for the purpose of doing something for the people that do so much for us,” said Mrs. Rozengota. “They sacrifice so much for us, and they go mostly unnoticed by the average high school student.”

International Thespian Society

The International Thespian Society, or ITS, is an honors club for student involved in theater productions. “ITS is an organization where both actors and the crew behind the curtain come together to aid the theatrical community and maybe even help increase interest and support for the dramatic arts,” said club president senior Devin Thrasher. The club includes a wide variety of actors, stage crew members, and tech crew members.

ITS’s main objective for the year is to bring the theatrical arts to the community in any way they can. “Our goal is to rebuild the troupe and raise awareness,” said Thrasher. “We want to expand the group and get more involved in the community possibly through the elementary schools.”

To become a member of the International Thespians Society, you need to have been a part of a number of play productions. The amount of your involvement plays a role in your acceptance if you are interested in joining.  ITS can be a way for students to get involved in the community in a way that they can enjoy.

“I joined ITS because I wanted to get in as much Theater as possible inside and outside of school,” said Junior ITS member Chris Skarin. “Through ITS, we can help build our theater department in the long run.”
