TV Review: American Horror Story Season Two

American Horror Story: Asylum is nothing compared to the original American Horror Story of season one. In episode one, “Welcome to Briarcliff,” viewers are introduced to a new storyline that is not continuous from season one. Briarcliff is an old insane asylum in which people were tortured, abused, maimed, and things of that nature. The legend is that once you are admitted to Briarcliff, you are not coming out.

In the first episode of the new season, viewers encountered two different storylines. A newly married couple, Leo and Teresa, decide to take their honeymoon to the haunted Briarcliff Asylum. They explore the rotted remains of the asylum taking pictures, reading a map, and walking into the most forbidden parts of the building. Their trip ends when the husband is brutally grabbed by something lurking in the asylum with him and his wife. Aside from that modern storyline, we catch glimpses of the past, 1964, and how Briarcliff got the reputation it did.

This season of American Horror Story seems pretty good. We need a deeper view of all the characters and the storyline can be somewhat confusing. The show keeps the mood suspenseful and worth watching, but it is intended for mature viewers 17 and above. Grade: B
