Get Involved: The Turtle Club

Mrs. Stacy Green, the Turtle Club sponsor, prepares to leave the school for the day. She suddenly remembers that she has to feed the group’s pet turtle, Tululu.  Green and her pet are both important aspects of Northern High School’s tortoise loving club. The purpose of the club is to raise a baby terrapin from Poplar Island and set it free at the end of each year. All year long, Green and the members of the group take care of the turtle by feeding her, cleaning the filter in her tank  and changing the water. Measurements will be taken of the turtle so that they can track her growth throughout the school year. They do all this for a study on how the turtle survives in the classroom environment.

Unfortunately, the Turtle Club members haven’t been able to set their turtle free the past few years. “The date is so close to the end of the year that the school won’t allow us to go,” said Green. Their hope is that the turtle’s original sponsor will push the date up so that the club members can set Tululu free this year.
