Review: Mitchel Musso’s Brainstorm (win an autographed copy)

MussoHis Hannah Montana days may be over, but Disney star Mitchel Musso seems to be at the prime of his career on his new album.  The actor-singer’s sophomore disk, Brainstorm, hit shelves on November 22.  You’ll find only eight songs on the CD, but for just $8 it’s a great deal.

The first three tracks, “Get Away,” “Got Your Heart,” and “Celebrate” have already been released as music videos, all of which follow a storyline about him and his significant other.  The album is mostly a compilation of catchy tunes, great if you’re looking for some upbeat dance songs.  Musso’s lyrics guide us through the ups and downs of his relationship, but the words of the song show his lack of experience.  In most of the tracks, one or two of the phrases make up the entire song.

Musso has, however, the making of a successful artist. His beats sound similar to the those of his brother’s former band, Metro Station. The now 19 year-old Musso seems to be breaking away from the Disney scene. Brainstorm, released by 717 Records, displays real life themes, as well as a hint of edginess. This combination will surely boost his appeal with older listeners. Grade: B+
