Based on a true story, Mark Bomback’s newest movie, Unstoppable, is a high speed thriller that will have you leaving the theater speechless. The film stars Denzel Washington as Frank Barnes, and Chris Pine as Will Colson, two men who take off on a dangerous mission to stop a runaway train filled with toxic chemicals from barreling into a small Pennsylvania town filled with unsuspecting residents.

As the movie progresses, the train, nicknamed “The Beast,” becomes increasingly more threatening as the attempts to stop the animal-like locomotive fail. The levels of peril layer on top of one another. The chemistry between Washington, playing a charismatic, down-to earth father, and Pine, a daring and humorous young man, grows as they learn to respect one another in order to avert complete disaster. Like Washington’s prior train themed film The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, the depiction of these everyday men as heroes stresses the theme of “normal” people who miraculously save the day.

Director Tony Scott uses an edgy and minimally computer edited style of filming, unlike most movies, which only emphasizes the realistic and intense nature of the movie, making the viewer feel as if they’re right in front of the tracks and wheels. The cast also includes Ethan Suplee (My Name is Earl) and Rosario Dawson (Seven Pounds), who play small roles in the film but do not take away from the suspense. This action-filled movie will keep you on the edge of your seat for all 98 minutes.
