Review: Camp Rock 2

camp-rock-2-poster-500x583Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam ($19.99 on Amazon), the sequel to Camp Rock starring the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato was released on DVD on Friday September 3. The movie is just like any other musical, but it shows that sometimes the Disney Channel can go too far.

The sequel is filled with drama, romance, and competition, showing that things have changed since last summer. The characters go through a difficult summer trying to win a competition against a new camp that has just moved in across the lake. Only one camp will survive. Rival Camp Star proves that they are someone you don’t want to mess with. Their performances include catchy songs, great dance moves, awesome lighting, and great singing.

Mitchie, the main character, works her hardest trying to save the camp. Meanwhile, Shane, the lead singer of the popular band Connect Three, wants to take their relationship further. She’s so busy they don’t have time to hang out putting their love on the rocks. The actors sure have grown up since last movie and things are not the same as they used to be.

The songs in the movie can be very catchy, but are always over powered by one singer. If you wanted to listen to Demi Lovato alone you should just get her CD. It would be nice if Disney didn’t try making this another High School Musical. Grade: C
