Review: Going the Distance

Going-the-Distance-PosterIn the new film Going the Distance, Drew Barrymore and Justin Long play two people who meet and fall in love in a short time. They live on opposite sides of the country. Long’s New Yorker is a cute, sweet boy who falls for Barrymore’s Los Angeles resident, knowing in the back of his mind that he can’t take away her one dream of becoming a writer for a major publication.

After months apart and only seeing each other every three months, the distance is slowly tearing them apart. Barrymore is ready to give up her life and career again to chase after the guy. Knowing this, Long forces her to stay in Los Angeles after having no luck finding jobs in New York. They  both continue to miss one another. Will they finally find a way to make it work or will they move on and continue wondering what if?

Commercials for this romantic comedy including the trailer appeared for months before the movie premiered.  Other than the two main characters, Justin Long and Drew Barrymore, there isn’t a star cast at all.  The film has a typical plot and an easily guessable ending.  At many points in the film, you just want it to speed up.  There are many slow parts, as well as some pretty funny ones.  Long and his friends in the film do a good job keeping it somewhat interesting and comedic.  It’s an okay movie. Grade B
