Review: Summer Reading – Into the Wild

IntotheWildThis year, the teachers of NHS selected the books for this year’s summer reading projects. One of the selections is Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. This is a biography of Christopher McCandless, who was a young man from a well-to-do family that lives right here in Calvert County. After college, he dropped out of society, gave up all his money and possessions and disappeared into the wilderness.

This biography walks us through his life, his family’s past, the impact on the people he met, and the places he visited before he was found dead in an abandoned “magic bus” in Alaska. This is a book that could possibly change your outlook on life as McCandless went from a college graduate to a man who died while trying to change his own life.  Grade: A+
