DVD Review: Youth in Revolt

youth-in-revolt-poster-2Originally a novel by C.D. Payne, Youth In Revolt was released on DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday. Michael Cera plays an innocent teenage boy, Nick Twisp, who falls in love while vacationing at a trailer park with his family. The girl of his dreams, Sheenie Saunders (Portia Doubleday), affects Twisp so much that he tries to get kicked out of his own house. Twisp, a dull straight-edge character, creates an alter-ego to help him get the girl.

Youth In Revolt is a fresh take for moviegoers, backing away from stupid-humor and turning toward more genuine comedy. Many scenes create an awkward vibe that will make any critic laugh. Cera, once again, plays a nerdy character who gets the girl, but his hilarious performance keeps his acting on point. I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for a good laugh. If you enjoy movies like Juno, which also starred Cera, or the more recent The Hangover, this is a movie for you. Grade: A
