Review: Letters to Juliet

letters_to_juliet_poster_02Letters to Juliet, based on the Nicholas Sparks romance novel, is a common,

overtold love story narrated by actress Amanda Seyfried. If you’ve seen the previews, you’ve seen the movie.  Taking on the rough plot of Romeo and Juliet without the deaths, the movie is suspenseless and lacks lust. Seyfried plays the main character, Sophie, who is engaged to a man who is working hard to open his own restaurant. Together, the two travel to Rome for an early (pre-wedding) honeymoon.

On the honeymoon, they spend all their time apart. This leads to a rocky engagement. During her time alone, Sophie finds a long lost love letter hidden in a wall. Of course, she writes back. Her reply leads to an adventure with an older woman and her conveniently good-looking grandson as they desperately work together to find her lost love. Letters to Juliet will have you excited to leave the theater so you can read the real love story of Romeo and Juliet. You’ll be disapointed when you find out there is no similarity. Grade: C
