True Life is a documentary series that has been running on MTV since 1998. It began its tenth season on March 15.

Each episode follows a particular subject, filming and capturing the unscripted lives of individuals. During season 9, the production crew focused on the state of the economy and its effects on young individuals and their families (example: True Life: “I Can No Longer Afford My Lifestyle”). Though the new season has only aired seven episodes, it’s beginning to show a trend of following individuals undergoing physical adversities – both mental and physical. One of the most memorable episodes this season was “I Need A Transplant” – an episode that would have left even the toughest individual reaching for a box of tissues. Another memorable episode was titled “I Hate My Face” – an episode that told the story of two women suffering from BDD (body dysmorphic disorder). Don’t worry, if you missed them, MTV reruns a lot.

The next episode is scheduled to air Monday, May 3 at 10 p.m. It will follow the life of Neil, a 19 year old recovering from a traumatic brain injury. Be sure to check it out, as it appears to be a fantastic episode. Grade A
